Ofc Poker Scoring

Open Face Chinese Poker guide: rules, scoring and strategy. Each player gets 13 cards. The player must put his cards into 3 different poker hands. Back hand is a poker combination placed nearest to the player, it consists of 5 cards and must be the strongest of all three hands. Middle hand is also a 5-card poker hand and must be lower than Back. Typically, you can find OFC poker being played as a side game in larger poker tournaments, but the stakes can still get quite high. Some high-stakes games have played for anywhere from $500 to $5,000 per point. Several casinos in Las Vegas, including the Venetian, Bellagio, and Wynn casinos, offer OFC games at their poker tables. OFCP Scoring Each game of OFC is based on points and the value (in cash) of a point is determined before the first deal (professionals will often wager up to per point). Once the playing conditions have been agreed on, the participants then assess who has the strongest hand on each street once a complete deal has taken place.

Objective

The goal of the game is to achieve more points than your opponents by winning more hands also known as rows and/or by collecting royalties on premium hands without fouling. See fouling for more details.

To win rows, your hand ranking must be higher than your opponents’ in that same row, for example:

IveyHellmuthWinner

Back33322KJ987Ivey

Ivey would win the front row and back row, but lose the middle row. See scoring for more details.

Fouling

Scoring

Fouling also known as mis-setting is when an illegal hand is made and as a result, the hand is forfeited.

The back row must be stronger than or equal to the row and the middle row must be stronger than or equal to the top row. Otherwise, the hand is not legal and is considered fouled. All royalty points are forfeited if the the player fouls. A fouled hand, by definition, loses in all three rows to a valid hand and is scooped (see scoring).

Legal hand structure
Row/HandStrength of hand
Front (3 cards)3rd / Weakest hand
Middle (5 cards)2nd / Stronger
Back (5 cards)1st / Strongest

Dealing

Unlike traditional Chinese poker where all 13 cards are dealt, or standard OFC where one card is dealt in every drawing round, in Pineapple OFC each player is dealt five cards in the beginning followed by four more rounds of three cards each. After each of the five rounds, players set their cards in order, ending with the dealer button position. During each draw of three cards, the players set two cards and discard one card into the muck.

Once a card has been set it cannot be moved to a different row, or retrieved from the muck.

Fantasyland

Fantasyland, FL in short, is a special bonus awarded to players that make a valid hand containing a pair of queens (QQx) or better in the top row. Two or three players might qualify for FL at the same time. During the next hand, each player in FL receives fourteen cards dealt at once and discards one, setting their three rows face-down. With the remaining cards in the deck, each player who is not in FL must play his drawing hand, and at the end of the game score up against the FL player/s.

To be awarded another FL while in FL requires any of the following conditions: trips in the top row, or at least quads in the bottom row.

Scoring

The stakes played for in Chinese poker are known as units or points: an amount of money agreed on per unit before the game starts. All scoring is done head-to-head, so every player must score up with every other player.

The winner of each row gets 1 point, and winning all three rows achieves a scoop which awards 3 extra points for a total of 6.

Other than points for the rows, every player will be paid for their respective royalty bonuses. For example, if A has a full house and B has a flush, B pays A 6 points and A pays B 4 points, but in practice B simply pays A 2 points because that is the royalty difference.

Royalties

Royalties, or bonuses as they are sometimes called, are extra units that are awarded for making Poker 5-card hands such as straights or flushes. Trips in the middle row, and most pairs in the top row, are also awarded. The full scheme is as follows:
